Hairball and declawing are the most common topics cat owners talk about. In fact, these are probably the two most important issues all cat lovers must be aware of. Hairballs are a very real threat to your cat’s digestion, which can block the already been digested food from traveling through cats’ intestines.

Declawing though, might sound odd to you. But yes, some cat owners have their cat declawed for the following reasons:  they don’t want their cat ruin their furniture and to scratch an individual, whether accidentally or not, is controversial. Learn more about these two topics and find more cat care information in this great article at http://www.kittyandcatcare.com.

However, we always have to remember to provide them with a proper diet. This is imperative if you have a pet of your own. What are you feeding your cat or dog? It’s great if you’re taking good care of them with TLC, but affection only goes so far. Hugs and kisses won’t keep them healthy. They require a healthy and nutritious diet. Did you know that their food does make a difference? This is why we give our pets Science Diet dog food and cat food.

The topic of pets and children can sometimes be touchy. So what can parents do when the topic of pets comes up, as it undoubtedly will? Some parents can stave off the topic while the children are smaller, promising that at a vague point in the future, when the kids are older, they may broach the topic again. Of course, this will only hold them off for so long. Eventually, the topic of pets will come up again, and invariably at an increased rate and intensity.

I just have a brand new article on Cat Behavior Modifications.

One of the most important pet accessories to have for cats are litter boxes. However, most cat litter boxes can be a pain since you have clean them a lot. Especially if you cat or dog has health issues that require constant attention. I hear that Paris Hilton has insurance on her little Chihuahua. Although this information may have come from Globe magazine, who can really dispute it? That girl has it all if money can buy it.

Gone are the days when a dog’s life was confined to the solitary outdoors with nothing but a miniature wooden hut to protect it from the elements.  Both dogs and cats are now part of the modern household and most of our canine and feline companions even have their own Pet Beds.  It will only be a matter of time when they have their own bedrooms too, and if some of you reading this think that’s going a bit far, you might be surprised to know that up to one in 4 pet dogs now sleep in the master bedroom, and some of them even sleep on the bed with their adopted human parents.  I think sharing the marital bed is going it a bit far, but pet beds for pet dogs is a real nice thought.  After all, what’s wrong with showing our faithful mutts how much we love them!

Cats have been companions to man throughout history, but not always as a beloved companion. In ancient Egypt, the cat was adored and celebrated - even mummified along with their human companions. Medieval man, however, had an entirely different opinion of the cat. Up until Medieval times, the cat had been elevated to a high status. Along with them went thousands of cats. Medieval man thought the cat had supernatural powers and any misfortune was blamed on them. Cats were even thought to be witches in disguise, running in the darkness of night to perform evil acts. Cats were burned, boiled, stoned, flayed, stabbed, gutted, dropped from high places, hanged, impaled and buried alive with an almost religious fervor. As time went on, more people of influence began to keep cats (even Cardinals Wolsey and Richelieu kept cats as pets) and the tide began to turn in the cats favor. Finally, but the 18th century, cats were no longer persecuted and cats as companions began to make a comeback. More in French Mandragore

We all know that cats can be fickle creatures. However, when a cat does decide to show you its affection it can be a wonderful and extremely loving pet!

I have a cat collection. It only takes most people about ten minutes to find out that I am a cat lover. I have two cats that live with us and hundreds of items that have cats on them. My husband bought me a curio cabinet to put my cat figurines in. It is a corner curio that we have placed in the dining area. My sister gave me a cat door mat that was shaped like a cat and was covered in paw prints. There is something about the cat door mat that attracts my Siamese cat.

For the first few weeks of his life, your kitten received all of his nutrition from his mother. As he reached four to six weeks of age, the breeder probably began supplementing the mother cat’s milk with canned kitten food or with hard kitten chow moistened with water. By the time your kitten reached eight weeks of age, he was weaned and eating a diet of kitten food. Your breeder should have given you some of the food your kitten was eating or at least the name of the kitten chow to continue the same feeding regimen.

Weaning normally occurs at about 4-5 weeks of age, but keep in mind that some kittens take longer, particularly without their mom to show them the ropes. You will know that a kitten is ready to begin the weaning process when it is biting the feeding nipple often and forcefully and also is able to lick formula from your finger. The next step is to persuade the kitten to lap up formula from a spoon. Once they’ve accomplished that hurdle, try offering formula in a small, flat dish.

If the kittens appear to need encouragement to lap from a bowl, dip your fingertip in the formula and let him lick it off your fingers as you move them down to the bowl. DO NOT push their nose into the dish as they can aspirate the fluid and develop pneumonia! Once the kittens become accustomed to lapping liquids you can add weaning formula or baby cereal by combining them with the formula. While the kittens are grasping the art of eating from a bowl you will still need to bottle-feed them and monitor the amount of formula and food they are consuming. Always offer food from the bowl first, and then offer the bottle. When you see they are eating well from the bowl begin to decrease the amount of formula they are receiving from the bottle…

It is also important to examine what you will be using your air purifier for. A elephantine number of individuals use air purifiers if they have pets or if they have a smoker inside the house. Unfortunately, not the totality of air purifiers are designed to remove these types of particles from the air. Therefore, if you plan on using an air purifier for smoke or for pets to be dust mites free, you are advised to conscientiously read the descriptions of each air purifier that you are interested in buying. Buying the wrong type of air purifier can turn an otherwise good purchase into one that is definitely not worth the buy.

Anyone interested in starting their own pet grooming business should find out if there are any grooming schools located near them. A grooming business that is stationary will have the customer bring the pet to their home; here they will do more than just wash your pet. Dog grooming courses that are offered over the weekend usually do not provide enough information to go and start a business.

When you can’t find a Christmas stocking for a pet in your local stores, you can easily find them online. Sometimes, major chains have items for sale on their websites that you cannot find in all of their stores. This is often due to items selling out locally, or because they wish for some items to be bought through their warehouse exclusively. Whatever the case may be it never hurts to hunt online for what you are looking for.

If you still can’t find the perfect Christmas stocking for a pet, you can make your own. You can buy any stocking you like, and you can add their name to the outside of the stocking. Then all you have to do to complete a Christmas stocking for a pet is to fill it with the things your pet will love. The obvious always work, because your pets are very obvious about what they need and what they love. You can add bones, toys, and collars for dogs, and don’t forget to put extra treats in a Christmas stocking for a pet. You are getting treats yourself, and they don’t want to be left out.

Consider getting an adult cat rather than a kitten. Animal shelters often find that many people are keen to adopt kittens, but adult cats are harder to home.

Take your new cat to the vet to have it neutered and vaccinated. As well as preventing your cat from adding to the population of unwanted kittens, neutering helps prevent fighting, roaming, and some behavioral problems. Neutered males are much less likely to spray, and spayed females won’t yowl when in heat. Spaying also has health benefits; spayed females won’t be susceptible to life threatening infections like pyometra and are less likely to get mammary cancer.

Domestic cats are partially gregarious animals. Some live in groups well and some do not. For domestic cats the group has a purely social function and unlike lions domestic cats do not hunt as a group. Cats are low-maintenance pets compared to dogs, and are quite suitable for households where everyone works full-time, although you might want to get two cats so that they can keep each other company during the day…
